Best for
Intermediate skiers and up
Built in 2024 at 7,600 feet, Smith & Morehouse is a place to turn it up when conditions line up, or stay in the trees when they don't. Long tree runs and chutes are easy to reach from the yurt, and high, open mountain slopes can be reached with some effort or advanced snowmobile skills. Both lower-risk slopes that rarely slide and true avalanche terrain are available. Intermediate experience and above is recommended.
Access is a 4-mile, 500-vertical-foot trip from the winter trailhead at the end of Weber Canyon Road, on a snowmobile-packed road: about 20 minutes by snowmobile or 2 hours on skins. The trail travels under 100-year historic event avalanche paths. There is no winter road maintenance, so no wheeled vehicles when it's snow covered.
Like every yurt in the system it sleeps 10, in four single and three double beds, with a wood-burning stove and oven, a full kitchen setup and a WAG outhouse. It's also where the standard hut-to-hut finishes: an 8-mile, 5,000-vertical-foot ski journey down from Castle Peak.
