For a wellness-focused biotech company like LifeOmic, it was a no-brainer to take their team out of the office and into nature for its corporate retreats. Looking to deepen team bonds and support their employees’ health, they teamed up with Inspired Summit Adventures to run truly unforgettable corporate retreats in Utah’s stunning Uinta Mountains.
The partnership spanned six years, during which Inspired Summit Adventures organized a total of seven retreats, accommodating groups ranging from 15 to 100 employees.

Nature as a Team-Building Playground
This wasn’t your average corporate retreat with name tags and breakout rooms. LifeOmic’s crew went all-in on the wilderness experience – spending five days and four nights in the woods: day hiking, rock climbing, fly fishing, and camping at altitudes reaching 10,000 feet. With brisk temperatures, physical challenges, and zero cell service, the retreat pushed people out of their comfort zones and into real connection.
“Inspired Summit Adventures organized several five-day-long excursions for my growing biotech company. The events were life-altering for many of my employees who had spent little time in nature,” said Don Brown, former CEO of LifeOmic. “We found the perfect balance between adventure and safety, allowing employees to experience camping, hiking, and even rock climbing in the great outdoors. Every retreat was a magical experience and something that created incredible loyalty among my team. The experiences left us all with memories that will last a lifetime.”
But it wasn’t all grit and roughing it. Inspired Summit Adventures is known for its elevated backcountry experiences. Gourmet food was prepared and served at high altitude – sorry, Dad, no hot dogs on a stick – and its programming went beyond just your traditional outdoor activities. The retreats offered photography workshops, plein air painting sessions, foraging adventures, and time for reflection. That mix of movement, mindfulness, and awe-inspiring scenery helped unlock a level of presence that’s hard to find in front of a computer.
"We had an unforgettable time and are extremely grateful for the tireless efforts put forth by the team at Inspired Summit Adventures,” said Tom Barber, Chief Scientific Officer at LifeOmic. “The attention to detail, openness to accommodate all kinds of wild ideas, and the just plain FUN we had was outstanding.”
Why Nature? Because It Works.
There’s a reason more companies are swapping boardrooms for the backcountry. Nature-based corporate retreats deliver a bunch of benefits that make teams stronger and individuals more balanced:
Stress reduction: Being outside, especially in a beautiful setting, helps lower anxiety and clear mental clutter.
Real conversations: Without screens or formalities, people connect more authentically.
Creative breakthroughs: Nature boosts creativity – something LifeOmic valued deeply as a science-driven, innovation-focused company.
Team trust: Shared challenges, like navigating trails or setting up camp, build resilience and camaraderie.
Wellness alignment: The retreat doubled as a living version of LifeOmic’s broader wellness initiatives, which reward healthy sleep, nutrition, and mindfulness habits.
The Impact Back at Work
After returning from the retreat, team members reported feeling more energized, connected, and aligned. It wasn’t just a morale boost; it was a reset. Employees came back not only with great stories but with a renewed sense of purpose and stronger bonds across departments.
This kind of team-building experience isn’t just about a change of scenery. It’s about changing the way people see and support one another. And for LifeOmic, it proved that investing in people’s well-being outside of the office makes all the difference in their day-to-day inside the office.
A Blueprint for Culture-Driven Companies
The LifeOmic x Inspired Summit Adventures partnership is a great example of how companies can weave wellness, creativity, and collaboration into the fabric of their culture. Want your team to communicate better, think bigger, and feel more grounded? Maybe it’s time to head for the mountains.
